Harmonic balancer question

    1972 mercury comet with a maverick front end. It has a 1992 5.0 motor in it.
    Just took off balancer on motor so i could paint the block, can i reuse it? You no clean it up and paint it. I didnt have any vibration before i took it out. :huh:

    Do a visual inspection of the rubber area that follows the circumfance of the balancer. You do not want to see any cracks in the rubber or any part of the rubber being pushed out of the balancer. If you think that there might be a crack or rubber coming out, then be safe and buy a new balancer. A stock replacement is cheap and some of the after market 1s are reasonable also.for under 100 bucks you can't go wrong:tiphat:. JM :2cents:. Ron

    If you can get to the seal replace it if it's leaking or hard.

    what do you look for on a aftermarket one :huh:thats if i dont use mine

    I've used em all the time with some rubber and cracks. That's not an indication of whether or not it's bad. I've seen newer ones that looked better and slipped the outer ring. If it was fine before, it'll be fine now. Just clean her up and give it a fresh coat of paint everywhere but on the timing marks.
