The exhaust company that put the last exhaust on connected the mufflers to a hanger at infront of the rear axle. Now I just got an "X" pipe & a little smaller mufflers. I would like to be able to take the "X" pipe off if I need to get to the driveshaft. Can hangers be installed some where around the transmission so if I unhook the "X" pipe the exhaust want be hanging by the header bolts. I have 2.5 inch pipes if this makes a difference or not. Were would you attach the hangers?

The best thing to do is to get yourself some metal strap with holes in it. Find some bolt holes or some bolts that you can bolt the strap to the body with. You will need to use some kind of rubber isolators to absorb engine movement and vibration (mounted to the body). once you find a suitable place to mount the strap to, weld the strap to your exhaust system. If there are no holes to work with you may need to make some. You could even get trick with it and weld the strap to some muffler clamps and unbolt it when ever you want. Hope this helps you, streetrod. If it dosent fell free to give me a buzz(y) . Jamie

The easiest way to make hangers is to use some wire braid hose about 1 inch long that you can put a hook into from the body and the pipe. The body end hook can be welded or bolted in a convenient place and the pipe hook can be clamped or welded to the pipe in a mating place to the body hook. The hose has to be large enough in diameter to have both hooks go through from oposite sides. That will isolate the noise from the exaust and allow some give in the hanger. For added safety you can add a couple of hose clamps around the hose if you are afraid the hose will tear. My experience with the wire braid hydraulic hose is that it doesn't need any help to hold the exhaust in place. The hose and hydraulic outlets sell the hose by the foot and one foot will handle 6 - 8 hangers. The diameter to buy depends on the size of the steel that you use for the hooks - I use 3/4" hose and 1/4" mild steel rod. The hose is cut about 1 1/2" long and I flatten the end that goes to the pipe and use the saddle clamps that hold the pipe together to hold it in place on the pipe. That way the same hanger can be reused over and over. In some places you can get away with just flattening the body side hook and bolt it in place too but in most situations I find that I can make it fit the existing body locations by welding the 1/4" rod to a piece of flat stock and bolt it into the factory spots.

Thanks Paul, I printed both responses so I cant let the exhaust shop guy read them. I found someone that will help that don't cost a arm & a leg. Hopefully this saves me money since I already have the mufflers, "X" pipe kit, & some pre bends.
