My first car (well, the first one I purchased myself) was a 1974 Ford Maverick (grabber, with a 302, white and orange with vinyl roof). I absolutely loved the car, but sold it back in 1989 when I was in the military (Air Force). I'm now at the point in my life where I can both afford and accomidate a four wheel toy and am looking to purchase another one. I have one lined up that I am likely to purchase in the next month, but wanted to touch based with an owners group beforehand. I'm looking for something that has already been restored and have given myself a budget of $10,000. After I post this thread, I'll likely look to see if you folks have buy/sell forum. I'd like a two door, 302 (nothing ridiculous performance-wise as this will be a summer driver...not a drag car), no vinyl top...and I'm not hung up on it being stock/original/etc. I just don't want a project on my hands. Maintenance, upkeep, etc is expected...but, ultimately, I'd love something that has been restored already.
from Northeast Pennsylvania With the budget that you set, you should be able to find something real nice
from north of you - up by Big Green Lake $10K will get you a very nice car in the Maverick world. Just be patient and really check out a few before you buy. Specially this time of year with winter in full swing and really not a lot of "test driving" going on. Prices of cars in the north demand a premium compared to some of the really good deals down south and west of the Rockies. So if I were looking and had that kind of money to spend, I would consider cars all over the US and maybe plan a plane ride to go look at some. You can drive it home in most cases of a real nice car - or figure a shipping company to have it sent back here to Wisconsin. If I can help you in anyway - just ask!
Actually, here is one in Utah that a board member is selling. Check this thread - quite a nice car and in your budget including any shipping and plane tickets to go see it. A real survivor - 75 Grabber with 21,500 miles http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220533340453 here is the thread on this forum about it: http://www.maverick.to/mmb/showthread.php?t=62129
I'll keep both the '75 Maverick and Maverick Maniac's offer in mind. Still looking at online ads and so forth.
nice. Yep, same orange vinyl top. Mine had grabber striping on it...otherwise, looked quite similar. LOVED that car!
