I had someone stop me yesterday and tell me his father-in-law has a "Grabber steering wheel". He described it as being a wooden rimmed wheel. He said his father-in-law is retired from a parts dept at a Ford dealership and has seen my car (not a Grabber) parked at work and asked who it belongs to. He told him to tell me about the wheel. I haven't heard of a factory wooden wheel for a grabber. Did they make them? I'm going to check it out this week.

I don't think so. I don't believe there was any wood wheel offered in any Maverick/Comet.

The early 1970 Grabbers had a wood simulated "rimblow" wheel.....could be that.

Craig is right on target-as usual.
IF it is a rimblow, our cousins in the Mustang and Cougar hobby will
pay dearly for it if it is a NOS wheel.

By the way, those Stallion wheels mentioned never came from the
factory on any Comet or Maverick.
That myth has been chewed over and over. They never came on these
    cars. Just ask Craig!

Thanks. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to look at it today or tomorrow. He sounded as if it is NOS. We'll see what he wants for it, who knows. I'll try to get a photo.

Yes...the rimblow was the same as used on Mustangs, etc. The only difference was the generic ford crest in the center instead of a model specific emblem like on the other cars.

Well, I went and spoke with the guy today. The steering wheel is in his garage attic, amongst all kinds of stuff. He is going to dig it out and contact me when he gets it out. He says that he thinks it has wood on it somewhere. He got the wheel (along with several others) while working at a Ford dealership. It is from a Maverick Grabber that was brand new. There was some sort of blemish on the wheel and the car owner brought it in under warranty. They replaced the wheel with a new one. He took the original one. He doesn't remember what the blemish was.

So, we'll see what it is when he gets it out for me. I think I should offer to help him dig it out. I wouldn't mind seeing what else he might have up there. ;)

I don't think there was ever a wooden wheel option for any Maverick. Sometimes dealers offered or added parts to promote sales. It wood have looked nice with the deluxe interor! If it is a NOS Ford part, it wood be a good investment. I paid $175 to have mine refinished and a new rimblow horn switch installed for my '69 Mach 1 about five years ago.

So what is the truth about the "Stallion" wheel? did they come on factory Stallion pintos or Stallion Mustang II? If so, why not the Mav Stallion? Is it a dealer add on?
