Gonna get the deluxe later on. For now I just wanted to know the options. Pretty much knew all this info except for the build date, later cars don't have it stamped like early ones. Also apparently my car had tinted glass. But none of my windows are, I'm guessing it's the windshield. But that tint wore off long ago. I always thought I had an early car, since mine didn't have the FORD script on the hood. Also the wheel well trim and dual sport mirrors weren't listed. I'm pretty sure they were factory since the wheel wells didn't have paint when I removed the trim. And the sport mirrors had the same paint and pinstripe as the body. I wanted to find out about the original color of my car, since the door tag listed the wrong color. The report color has the same "3M" code though. My car was actually "3Q".
Gotta print it first They email them now instead of mailing them. But I'm not complaining because the turnaround is much quicker. Ordered it on wednesday, and got it the email this morning
The tinted glass isn't that noticeable, unless you have the two pieces side by side. Being that it was built in July, that's the tail end of production, change over was usually in August sometime. Interesting about the color, what is 3Q? The other pieces could have been dealer added, requested by the customer? It's not really optioned out.
Pretty much all ac cars had tinted windows, if you hold up a piece of paper on the outside of the window and look at it from inside it will look green if windows are tinted
I thought the same thing....but I have seen a few (a very few) that had regular glass. Looks like you might have observed the same thing.
My car is tinted but I have a regular set of glass downstairs. Had my tinted glass here stored with it during body and paint. Huge difference side by side.
I'm not really seeing a tint, sorry for the crappy pic. I'll take a better picture tomorrow. Once I find my good camera. This is what the original color of my car was, looks spot on with your car You can also see the color on the door jams: It was definitely 3Q and not 3M.
For some reason your reply wasn't showing earlier, But I listed the Color differences in the above post. Being one of the last cars make me wonder if they just ran out of FORD script to put on the hood. Almost every other 75 I've seen had them on the hood. Mine didn't even have the holes. The sport mirrors I do see them being able to be added at the dealer. But what About the wheel well trim? Was the trim added before painting the car? this is why I'm asking that: But then the part that looked "unpainted" to me actually looks like 3M My engine bay is also that color, Not 3Q. Which just makes things more odd
I took all the emblems off all the way around. I had ford lettering on the front hood and trunk and maverick on each rear side by the pop out window.
And I thought I had solved the mystery haha, Mine had the original hood and I took it down all the way to bare steel on the lip before i primered it. And it had no filler and no holes. It never had the emblems at all.
I would say that sometime in the past your car was repainted 3Q instead of 3M. Never seen one different under the hood like that unless it was black, so just another reason to suspect a repaint. Could have even happened at the dealer, it wasn't unheard of back then for a customer to have a dealer change the color on a car. The different color under the wheelwell moulding is suspect, too. Every car I have ever pulled trim off of the color underneath was the same. As for the hood lettering, I thought that started in 76? Not really sure, or the hood could have been replaced with a factory service part at some time. The tint could refer to the band at the top of the windsheild. Glass might have been replaced sometime if yours doesn't have the band.
A repaint would make a lot of sense, but the decals is what throws me off. There's no sign of a repaint over the factory decals on the door jams or the trunk. Also it had the correct pinstripes, something a lot of people respraying their car would leave out. The dealer respraying would explain that though, I would bet they could get the stickers easily. And would have access to pinstripe it correctly. Thanks for all the info guys 3M doesn't look that bad actually, might consider putting it back to that color.
