Earl Branham and loaded in my dad's F-250 with my trailer in tow, and headed to Knoxville, TN. I had agreed to buy a '76 Maverick that a guy listed on e-Bay and the winning bidder didn't come through. He wanted $800 for the car. Four hours after leaving my house, Earl is giving the car the once over while I go in the office and meet the guy. After Earl and I looked the car over with a fine tooth coomb, we decided it was a $500 at best. We went into the office and told guy all that was wrong with and told him it wasn't worth more than $500. He said he couldn't sell it for that. When he realized I was willing go back home empty-handed, even after driving four hours, he decided to dicker. The car has a pitiful body from the firewall back to the trunk. However, from the firerwall forward, it is in great shape. It has factory air, factory power steering, factory power disc brakes, the hubcaps and beauty rings, and good tires. He took $600. I may have paid a little too much, but since I have a '74, that has a great body, drum brakes, manual steering, a rusted radiator support and battery tray side sheetmetal (the ones on the '76 are in good shape), I figured I got a bunch of parts for less money than I would have paid for the parts. The best part of the trip was spending nine hours with Earl. It was an easy trip, the F250 was a very comfortable ride, we did make a deal on Maverick, and we got to know each other better. It was a great, great time and Frank wasn't there (just kiddin' Frank). I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. However, tomorrow is another fine day. After church I get to come home and take the Mav off the trailer and drive about one hour to pick up a '67 Mustang coupe, with no drivetrain, to be used a parts car for the '67 Mustang convertible my sister just bought. Anybody want to come live in my basement for room, board, abnd a little spending money to work on Mavs and a Mustang?
Sounds like you got a plan. It's nice having the whole car to pull parts from. You really cant put a value on the convenience factor - since it sounds like you are like me (not enough time or too many projects) that convenience factor is very valuable. Cleaver
Frank; had a great time...Terry says that is because you weren't there! Whatever, I will see you tomorrow morning!
Hmmmm...... Maybe, it's the opposite of your theory. Maybe, Earl did something right. Frank, it would have been more fun with you, but I'm sure I could've stood that much fun. Oh, Frank. Ask Earl to tell you ALL the things he saw while riding in the passenger seat. Next time, Earl drives.
You guys crack me up, I always get a good laugh when I read your posts. You guys have to make to the the round-up next year if it is held in KY. Terry, post some pics when you get a chance! Later, Dave
Pics Just got her off the trailer. Here are some pics. She is not as good as she looksm - lot of rust on the inside of the trunk and inside the quarter panels.
Fft hey buddy, are there any parts there for me ? sorry i missed showing you a good time this weekend. i don't know what i did " wrong " but earl came and spent the day with me. we spent the day doing a mod. on his steering box . we went and looked at a 69.5' mav. it was a pretty nice car. a lady had it for sale. a little too much money ($1200). 170 auto., two door...frank...
That looks purdy good . Did it have ac at one time ? Could you please take some pics of the hitch on that , thanks .
I'm sure that I'm going to have a bunch of parts available...one day. No parts are going to be let go, now. Now, I'm going to have to really look over both my '74 and this '76 to determine if I want to take body parts off the '74 and put on the '76 (both floor pans, both quarters, both rockers, one fender, and the trunk pan) or to move everything to the '74 (power steering, power brakes, disc brakes, A/C, and A/C dash). You guys who have had to make these changes are welcome to share your opinion.
