I have the GM ignition module and Duraspark distributor conversion. I've done this before and all was well. This time, I am having a problem with the car just dying out when idling. It will also die when put in gear. This only happens after the car has been running for 10 minutes or so. It will not die when put in gear when first started, only after it has been running awhile. Yes, I mounted a big heat sink to it. I used one from a home computer. I also used heat sink compound between the module and flat area of the heat sink. I noticed the heat sink gets pretty hot. I can't hold my fingers on it. I know the modules get hot, but how hot is hot? I'm using a Jegs brand plain Jane chrome coil. Could this coil perhaps need a ballast resistor ? Could that be why the heat sink gets so hot and the car dies? This car is in the restoration mode and is not driveable yet so I can't say how it runs while driving. Has anyone had similar problems or know what the solution is? Oh, I have a the Ecklin brand module from Napa. I got the more expensive module ($35) not the cheap one hoping the better one would be better ... Danford1
Danford I have used yhe same set up on 2 cars in the past with NO problems BUT I only used only GM modules. I didn't use ballist resistors on any of these cars. Jay
