Ok I know this has been talked about but I am going to ask again. I have heard several different opinions on what kinda gauges to run. As far as mechanical or electric I was wondering in your opinions (I know this board is full of them :D ) Which are the better to run on just a street car. This one will NEVER see a track so these are just going to be there instead of the idiot lights.

I was also wondering on brand names and who makes the better gauges, I know there are several out there but what has everyone had the best luck with?

I can't wait to get them so I can start making my console to contain them I think it will look pretty sweet. At least I will :bananaman
    Thanks guys

I am currently running Auto Gage 2 5/8" machanical gauges and they are very well made (by Auto Meter) and not too expensive.

It seems that the Autometer seem to be one of the favorite. I like them but they just don't have the look that I am after. I went down and ordered my new gauges should be here next Tues. I went with Stewart Warners. They have alittle more of the older look to them and that is kinda what I am after,

I got a mech oil pressure, mech water temp, and fuel gauge, and a Tach.
I will post some pic when I get them in

Going with a vintage look Neal the Stewart Warners are definitely the way to go....some very sweet gauge packages.

Autometer 2 5/8 works and looks sweet in my Mav. Mechanical all the way.

I also agree that the Stewart Warner mechanical gauges are the way to go. They also fit the era of the car for that vintage correct look.

Here's a pair of Stewart Warner water & oil pressure mechanical gauges from that era next to the stereo.

I like the way you did your tach looks good in there :D

I think they will look awesome in there plus I get a really good deal on them, that is one other reason why I am going with them plus I know they are a good brand of gauges to boot.

If you notice, the gauge bracket holder has the angled rings mounted to it so it faces towards the driver somewhat.

Were those sold together or did you get them individually. I bought mine as individuals and planning on trying to make my own mounts, little idea that I hope works out I will post pics of it when or if it works out :D

The 2 gauge panel is old seperately & is made by Autometer. The angled mounting rings are sold in 1, 2, or 3 packs & they are also made by Autometer. I used Autometer because they were the only ones that made the panel & rings in black that fit the Stewart Warner gauges.

I prefer electrical gages, I don't like engine fluids coming into the passenger compartment. Had some bad luck with that. I'm currently running Auto Meter.
