Does a 77 Comet gas tank fit a 72 Comet? the 77 tanks are available from RockAuto for $121.79. My tank has rust and I'd rather go back new or with a fuel cell. thanks Phil

It will fit but you will need the 75-77 gas tank straps.

The tank will have slight clearance issues with the valance panel but you can easily bow it out to clear. The fuel sender is different but yours will work, it just wont suck all the gas out if you like to run near empty. The vent is different so you will have to get the newer style vent.

I prefer to convert over to a Mustang fuel tank.

i had no ..."clearance issues"...and the "fuel sending tube" set at the same depth. :yup:
i will get the 2 tanks and do some measuring and note the diff.
from what i saw on the one i pulled as to the one i put in (3wks. ago) was...the tanks are no..longer...deeper or wider, just the slope to the back is not as sharp. (y)
