Does anyone know how safe the Maverick's gas tank is? I think it is the exact same design and placement as the Mustang tanks that have been known to explode in some rear-end collisions.

I noticed that you, too have a 70. An idea if you were worried about the tank would to do what many do with the stangs - replace the paperboard partition between the back seat and the trunk with a metal one....

It's Safe!,Short story! In 1968 I bought a brand new Triumph GT6,(nice car) well the gas tank on this car is right behind the driver. I have this car like two weeks, out and about on the old Connecticut back roads ,twist and turn, and the right rear tire blows (Dunlop) I lose control and get T-Boned by a Chrysler (this is 1968 so you figure the size) The Triumph goes end over end a few times,I get out of the wreck somehow, and walk back to the road dripping in gas, there was not a dry spot on me,got naked real fast, damn just thinking about it makes me shake, only had a few small cuts from the broken glass, hell whats this got to do with mavericks? Yes Dunlop paid for a new car.
