gas fouled plugs

    question pulled theplugs out of my 302 they smell like fuel and are black and sooty can they be cleaned and reused or should they be replaced anyone know the correct gap its an 85 motor but im running the maverick stock point ignition till i can afford an msd

    Plug gap would be around 30-35 thou with points.I would change them for what it's worth.

    Did you pull them after a lot of city driving? Sounds as if you may have a carb problem. Adjustment, float level or choke sticking etc. Also would not hurt to check compression,timing and plug wires too. Lot's of things can cause a "rich" burning of fuel in the combustion chamber. I would also go get a Duraspark dizzy and matching brain box. They have the same basic design as the MSD, internally. The point dizzy may not be doing a good job of providing a strong spark to the plugs. Carb is best bet for the cause though. JMO
