Quick question, I have drum brakes on the front of my maverick, I dont drive it fast or come up to a stop sign at 70 mph and try to stop it, so the drums will do fine for me,, has a shoe that has a short pad and one with a long pad. I installed the short pad shoe towards the front of the car. Is this correct? Thank you!!

You are correct. The longer pad always goes towards the rear of the car.
