I found some front brake adapter plates for a front disc brake swap on E-bay. The suppliers name is Scarcebird products. It's a bracket that bolts on to the original drum brake spindle and you can use rotors from a 2wd Ranger and calipers/pads from an S-10. I asked the seller if they would work on my 1970 Maverick and his reply was "I think so." I was wondering if anyone had tried this set up with any luck, or if I'm wasting my time? I figure for $135 it's a decent option.
I think you are thinking of "scarebird" all you have to do is look up that name and you will find several posts on the forums about them
you can usually buy a disc brake swap on here for around $150. I would look before I bought a kit like that
ive seen that done on some street rods but i see a few problems right a way. first the wheel bolt patern will not work with ford wheels. i have never liked the gm caliper, i dont quite know why but when ever ive done a brake job on them i just have a feeling of this thing is junk. i would be really suprised if the s10 rotors bearing spacing is the same as the mav. spindle.
it uses ranger 2wd spindles, the chevy parts are the calipers and pads and those are no more as bad as the ranger ones
I hear they had problems with the hubs being bad workmanship, poor quality and their directions are vague. They take modifications to make then fit.
Original drum brake spindles, Ranger rotors... The only problem I see is if the Ranger rotors are 5-lug and the Maverick drum hubs are 4-lug. However I do see several kits from that seller for Falcons and Mustangs, so I bet one of them would fit. Anyway though... For that amount of money, I would just do the tried-and-true Granada disc swap.
