    Hello!

I took off the front chrome bumper on my 1973 mercury comet gt...i also took off the little plastic/rubber thing that goes between the chrome piece and the front grill. Well i am not really a fan of the bumper sticking out like that, is their any way to kind of push it in? Or do i have to get something cut and welded?

    Thanks!!(y)

I am a big fan of a mild bumper tuck on a 73. The front bumper, while bigger, looks good set back a bit ... if you are blocking the side marker in the fender, you have gone too far. Play with it a bit, especially looking at the profile of the car. There is a sweet spot where it looks really good. The hood overhangs the grille a bit, and the bumper still needs to be a bit away from the grille a like amount.

Here is a picture of a tuck that was done well ... moved back 1.75 inches ...

If you swap to an earlier thin front bumper, you will probably want to change to the 70-72 valance with the smaller opening too.

You can do a tuck on the rear bumper, too. Your rear bumper is the same as 70-72, but you will need to swap to earlier brackets, and then get earlier quarter extensions, and the small filler pieces that go under them and the bumper.

soooo...do i have to get a 1972 bumper with the new brackets? Or is it possible to just kinda push the two I-Beams holding the front bumper to the frame via brackets?

I searched bumper tuck, and was surprised that I only got a few results.

I like the 73 front bumper and would keep it if I were to ever get a 73 car. I seem to remember folks discussing the tuck, saying that you can gut some of the works out of there and reconfigure it, but I have never really looked at what is there.

Somebody who has done this, ... help him out here.

EDIT .... here is a thread with some clues .... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=84331&highlight=bumper+tuck&page=2
