thanks mav.nutt. we have been at it for a long time.to do it right takes time and patience. we all can get there with time and our friends...frank...
I`ve gotta step in and tell you guys, that when Frank says "do it right" he means Right! I`ve seen the car ,and the body work being done is fantastic ,with a custom touch here and there and great attention to detail . When this car is done it WILL be different than any Maverick you`ve ever seen for sure!
thanks m.a.v. for the kind words. as you know you were the one that got me headed in the right direction.if you hadn't made that stop by the house to start with, it might have been a different car.thanks...frank...
. How do you guys paint your cars yourselves? Do you have big exhaust fans in a garage or are you just doing it in a big shop or something?
When I paint I do not use an exhaust fan Most garages have too much dust and dirt all over the place. Also with most garages, air infiltrates in every crack, gap or crevis. That makes it too hard to filter incomming air. The down side is you get one hell of a fog going and by time the last coat goes on, you can only see about 4-5 ft so you better know where everthing is. The upside is I have very little trash to deal with when the painting is done. Also dont have standing water on the floor. Your hose can splash it a long way. Wet the floor but mop up the excess water.
Great looking car Frank. I agree about having dirt in the shop. Next paint job I am going to have a different plan. I just can't get the place clean enough. Keep up the good work. Greg
Back when I used to paint my own cars I would put up a "tent" of plastic sheets around the car, just dampen the floor like Mavaholic said, had an exhaust fan in the window at the back of the garage and opened the garage door about a foot and put funace filters in the opening. That was to spray acrylic enamal. Nowadays I prefer the look of base coat/clearcoat, but that stuff will kill you without the proper equipment. I let someone else do it now.
It looks very nice 71gold. It's quite a huge task that you have under taken. A lot of us won't go to that extent because the Maverick doesn't generate the huge values that some of these Mustangs do. It shows that you like the car, rather than worrying about you investment. Keep up the good work & I want a see more pics as you go along. What powertrain are you going with?
. Well your Mav is thankful even if your lungs aren't . If you paint in a normal garage, doesn't the overspray come back down and ruin the paint job after ure done?
