I have 1974 maverick, I bought it few months ago. It has a I think it's a 200 v6 and was wondering what size of a v8 I can put in it without having to do to much to the front end and other major things. And I have a lot more questions if any one has time. I'm from springfield mo.

    Hi Adam,
I think first if it is a stock engine it would be an inline 6.
these cars came with a 302 so fitting one in your car would be just getting all the swap parts.

    :Welcome:...:Handshake:

Yea I just checked and my vins match and mine is a v6 wither the 200 CID engine. So what ur saying a 302 will work.

There was NEVER a V6 in any Maverick from the factory... The 200 is a inline 6cyl...

Only V6 Ford used in the '70s was the German 2.6/2.8L that were in Mustang II, Capri and a few Pinto SW... The first Fox Stang/Capri in '79 still used the 2.8L but switched to the 3.3L(200 I6), late in year as there wasn't a large enough supply of the German built engines... 3.3L were built in Lima OH...

Three are several 6cyl to 302 swap threads on this site detailing necessary changes, a good bit more to it than just pulling one and installing the next...Things like radiator, exhaust system, engine mounts, throttle linkage, pulleys, transmission, etc etc etc are different...

If you have a 250 six...then you already have the V8 transmission attached to the engine

there are lots and lots of threads about an I6 to V8 swap on here. and there are lots and lots of people on here who have done it.
    Short list of parts:
    302 engine
    302 motor mounts
    Front sump oil pan
    flywheel (forgot tooth count)
if its a 200 you need a transmission that will bolt up to the 302 (plenty to list)
    possibly a driveshaft
    id suggest a bigger radiator
    radiator hoses
Headers to fit (not all 302 headers will work in a Mav)
    V8 transmission crossmember
    V8 engine crossmember is optional

heres an example of a tech article on this topic (there are many)

    157 tooth flywheel
If using a later 5.0L roller engine, you'll need an aftermarket 157-tooth flexplate/flywheel with 50oz imbalance. If using an older 302, you will need a 28oz flywheel, and the 302/250 bell housings/starters are the same. The 200 has a three-bolt starter and the bell housing is different. What is your VIN? The 5th digit will tell you whether it is a 200 or a 250 ("L" = 250, "T" =200).

Good Luck, and :Welcome: from Atlantic Canada!

    Try here:
    http://www.mmb.maverick.to/forums/maverick-comet-for-sale.13/

And when you use the search function, it will search the specific forum you are in).

The most likely spot to find the ENGINE would be local Craigslist ads. Of course, finding the parts required to get it in the Maverick will be most likely easier on here, or sometimes on e-Bay.

Size matters (or so I've been told). Build a Dart block that you bore and stroke to a 363 in the same size envelope.
See how easily I spend other people's money!
