If i were to buy a turnkey engine and have a local garage install it, about how much would they charge? is 1K a good estimate? thanks!
engine install I do some work for other people in the evenings or winter while I'm laid off the last engine swap I did I charged the guy $400 plus parts, but thats me. I do most of it for the fun and its a good way to get my ass of the couch and do something productive! around here most shops charge between $40 to $70 an hr. it should only take a good day to swap everything.
Depends on whether you installing a like motor or converting from a 6 to a 8. A decent long block can run about $1300 if you have connections. Are you getting any warrenty? Did the $1000 include the motor. Is it a long block or short block?.
like everyone is asking, what motor and is it a new, used or are they rebuilding yours? does this include the hoses, belts, reman. starter reman. carb. and reman. alt? new plugs and wires? the list goes on and on. get them to give you a list of what you get. 1 grand sounds mighty low for parts and labor. j.m.o....frank...:bananaman :bananaman
I just had a engine put in one of my cars,it was a 200 CID,thats what it was and yes thats what I put back in.I have two other Mavs that are 302s so really don't need another. I got the engine at a wrecker in Sacramento (via a phone call,I did not see this engine) I did deal with this guy before so I do trust Him. The engine cost me $350.00,it was shipped to me in the bay area for $45.00. thats a pretty good deal. (turns out the engine was in "like new " condition) I went and bought new timeing gears, chain, all new gaskets, water pump, plugs, points, oil etc. for a TOTAL OF $145.00 It was towed to the shop, the head was sent out for a valve job,($365) The bill at the shop was $1637.00 (thats with the valve job) Yes I could have done this myself, but I tell ya it was nice haveing it done while I just kick back! Get the check book out! Tom
just the labor to do the job, assuming you have everything you need, should run 350 to 600bucks... depending on where you live. here in jersey, 55 to 65 an hour is normal.if you live where the labor is cheaper....YOU LUCKY DAWG!
i said int he first post it was a turn key engine, meaning it is ready to run and has been run at the place im buying it from. Just needed to know how much to drop it in and go. so its about 70 and hour. thanks.
A thousand bucks to install a complete longblock sounds a bit steep if your pullin the same type of engine.
