OK, I need help identifying which 351 engine is in this van. It is a 94 E350, roller block or not? Any way to tell without ripping it apart?

no way of telling from the outside. in '94, it's hard to say if its roller or not. could be either one according to the books

Look for the block casting numbers above the starter. Roller block is F4TE. If you cannot see the numbers, pull one pushrod and measure it. Roller 351W pushrods are about 7.5-7.6" long. Flat tappet rods are 8.15" Also keep in mind though that you can also have a flat tappet cam in a roller block from the factory, not the other way around.

I was told by a Lightning guru that only Lightnings got roller blocks in 94, then mid 95 other trucks/vans got them. I don't know myself...
The guy I heard it from knows his stuff. I'd bet on him before I bet against him.

My roller block came from a 96 F250.

thanks for the replies, I was wondering if 94 was the transition year? My understanding was the F4TE blocks were roller.

    If it helps, I had a 93 E150, with a roller block 302.

wouldn't surprise me that the 93 had a roller 302, it's the 351 that is an issue. I think!

Trucks went roller in 92 in the 302. But had roller blocks starting in 86.
