I pulled the fuel tank on the 70' Mav, and i ran into what i believe is vent tubes or emission lines coming out of the top of the tank running to a block on the left side of the car that then runs in the trunk to a L shaped contraption that seems to go no place. Inside the tank there is a plastic molding that covers most of the top of the tank with the lines molded into it. One of the lines from the block runs to the front of the car to what looks like a charcoal canister used to be. My question is what are these and do i need them? Can i cap them coming out of the tank? The filler neck looks like it has a vent on it? Thanks for your help and knowledge!:bouncy:

It's 1970 California only emissions. If you need if for inspection, leave it in.

As Dave said - Cali only for 1970. It traps the gasoline vapors when your car is parked and then the vapors can be burned safely once the engine is running. It uses no power and nothing is gained by removing it. The only downside is that the gas tank is a smaller size and uses a different sending unit than other 1970 cars with the drop in, trunk floor style tank.

I have no problem leaving it. Im wondering if i can find parts. If i can't find parts ill just vent them outside the car.

They pop up from time to time, so you might have some luck finding used stuff.

Looks like some of the parts may be broke in the auction, but maybe there is enough there to fix what you have.

Yeah i noticed that the second time i looked at it. After talking with the guys at work im just going to vent the tubes outside if i cant somehow fix what i have. Dave B mentioned an inspection. I thank an inspection is only required if its salvaged or off the books for sometime. I have had it on non op a few times over the eight years I've had it an no inspection. It even sat for over 15 years on non op before i got it and no inspection. So i think if i modify it or take it off ill keep everything i need to put it back. I know how California can bend you over like that and change it up on you over night.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
You'll be fine we dont have inspections here in California and your car is smog exempt.

Of course it's a felony to take off emmission stuff :D

But have I ever lost any sleep over stripping off all the smog stuff in my car? nope.
