im getting a notion to install an electric fan on my maverick. i love the quietness, and it would seem like eliminating any weight/tension form the front of the motor (pulleys) could increase horsepower.
i also suspect it would keep the car cooler, as its probably on after the car has been shut down (thermostatically controlled)

what are the known pros and cons in comparing my 4 blade fan to an electric?
whats more effective, the pusher or puller fans?

First of all, I doubt there is any weight savings because the electric fan set up probably weighs more than the standard metal fan. The savings would come in the form of reducing parasitic drag from the engine. While the difference is probably measureable, I doubt you would feel any difference.

I do know on my Mustang it was worth 4-5 MPG over the clutch fan. Whether or not it increases power, I do not know. I don't see how it could hurt, though.

Forget it! I put an electric in my 502/502 Cheville. Royal PITA. First, got to use bigass wiring, and a relay. Got to hook up the A/C so the fan goes on when the A/C is on, otherwise you blow the A/C due to excess head pressure. Got to use a thermostaticacally controlled on/off switch. Oh, the reason for the bigass wires is cuz this puppy draws some current, and probably the alternator ain't got the rocks to power everything, so get a bigger alternator. Oh, the 30 Amp relay is too small, so get a 70 amp job. I did this outta necessity as a metal fan would not fit. The fan was out of a LIncoln Mk VII, or so. The Windstar has a good dual fan. email if you need a citation for the relay, they are hard to find.

    This pup is not quiet.

If your car cools, don't mess with it.

I wouldn't run a electric fan on any big block car or any engine producing more than 350 hp, a 3000 cfm fan is as big as they get as far as I've seen and that aint enough for that much engine

Rip, Not so. My Impala SS, sprayed, bored and stroked to 396, makes 478 hp at the wheel, and the stock fans do nicely, even in Fla.

The Chevelle with the ZZ502 does nice with the electric, A/C and all.

One nice thing about the electric fan, It won't lunch a $800 Griffin radiator when things get loose.
