Not sure if it's the same on V8's but on straight 6's you have to get a non EGR carb spacer to replace your EGR one. I did it on my '74 when I had the engine out: http://5hp.hill.cc/Maverick/page4.htm First pic shows it. Just unbolt your carb, unbolt the spacer, bolt your new spacer on and block off the vaccum line that used to go to the EGR valve. I would imagine it's a fairly similar opperation on a 302.
i had an egr intake....when i had the heads off last....i just got in intake gasket kit....it came with exhaust gasket material to block off the EGR from intake to heads....
i just checked it sais this "All 1975 and older vehicles are exempt from smog certification requirements." -:bananaman i got lucky http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm#BM2535
figures, I move to IL where they still require emissions test on my 74. With my 2bbl I just put a piece of cardboard in place of the gasket between the ERG valve and the EGR spacer plate. I still passed emissions . . .before the hot cam and 4BBL. . Now I'm in a pickle. Does any one have a digital pic of their STOCK 302 with the Vacuum hoses in their original places? I need to undergo a visual inspection and have 2 hoses and a T left over.
it's just those big metro areas, chicago, e.Stl....there are a few others. emissions testing, special gas, psshhhhht stinkin tree huggin epa.
Sadly, in the greater Chicago land area 74 is still tested. I moved here 7 years ago from rural NM where I didn't have to test either. Someday they give up. . .maybe. Still looking for a picture of vacuum hoses from a stock 74 302.
i have 77 in the garage, i don't know how similar it is to the 74 but regardless, here are a few, i can get more/better.
