Have you ever bought a car off of ebay unseen? My coworker has ( 87 Jeep pickup) and had a great experience. Dont know, I want a Mav, but buying unseen makes me nervous. Just wandering if you ever have...
You mean what part of the us? Im in NE ohio. If you man where on the net, just ebay motors in general. Have seen some that looked good for the starting bid, but the whole unseen thing makes me nervous. I went and looked at some local and have been very disappointed in them.
I am sure that it is easier to be disappointed with a car bought online unseen. ... I wouldn't do it unless you are planning to totally rehab the car anyway, and there is a ton of pictures showing that it isn't rusty junk.
thier are a few of us that have gone and looked at cars for people on the board. you could post where the car is and ask if someone that lives close would check it out for you...
I have bought several cars unseen and don't fear it in the least. Just do not assume anything, ask questions and get many, many pictures of everything. Avoid the hard to contact, evasive answers people. I have mailed digital cameras to sellers to take like a couple hundred pictures and mail it back. (Yes, I have always gotten my camera back)
Have bought a total of 3 cars on Ebay. 73 Mav; 97 Del Sol and 95 Mazda Miata. Good experience with all of them. We sent the buyer an email asking for phone number and asked lots of questions. Don't hesitate to post for help on the forum. I have checked out a car for members before.
I did the same as Indyman, 3 cars all just like I was told. I bought a Mustang from Miami Fl flew down and drove it home. I just got a Maverick from Pa. Get the phone number and talk to them , you can usually tell when you should forget it. I talked to the guy in Pa about 5 times before I ever bid. I wrote down all my questions before every call, if something is in mid MI let me know and I can try to look at it.bananaman:bananaman
I bought one off of ebay and wouldn't do it again unless I could see it or have someone that knows Mavericks or Comets look at it first. Still trying to get plates on a Comet I bought over a year ago.
Bought both of mine off of Ebay sight unseen (only pictures) Spoke to both sellers via Email and on the phone many times before bidding. If either of them had of seemed like they were bothered by me asking so many questions, calling so much or sending so many emails I would have forgot about the car in a heart beat. Both sellers answered all my emails very timely. Took all my phone calls, answered all my questions and never hurried me off the phone. I was spending several thousand dollars of my hard earned money that was going directly into their pockets so they were happy to answer the questions I had and to talk to me about my reservations over buying a car without seeing it first. Both cars were as much like they were described as I could have asked for and I have been enjoyign them both ever since. Shoot...the Guy I bought my yellow Maverick from even let me use his tags to drive it home. I flew in and he picked me up at the airport in the car drove me to his house, signed the title over and finished the deal in cash and I drove the car home 12 hours that night. The Tan 73 Grabber My Dad drove me down to NC and I took my tags and drove that car home also. You just have to have a sure feeling about soemthing like that before you do it. If you have any bad feelings, listen to your gut and don't do it.
BTW if you were to buy one off Ebay and you get there to pick it up and it is horribly nothing like the description, and the thing is just a terrible rust bucket that the seller described as a fully restored show car. The worse thing that's "SHOULD" happen is you might lose your deposit, get some bad feedback and file a despute with ebay/paypal and just walk away from the deal. You should never pay the full amount of the car through paypal or in advance before you get to see/take delivery of the car. A good faith deposit should always be sufficient to hold the car for a week or so until you get there to pick the car up at which time you can pay the rest in cash or certified check.
Buyers no longer can get negative feedback on eBay, only sellers. Hate it ... In over 500+ transactions, only ran into a couple of buyers that needed it. Most folks out there are nice, normal people, but every once in a while you run into someone who is off their meds ...
I bought my Grabber on eBay trusting the sellers statement it was 100% Rust Free. As part of the deal the seller delivered the car to me with payment COD. I figured he wouldn't describe the car incorrectly if he was trailering it 4 hours to deliver it and expecting me to pay on delivery.
