In a earlier post there is a discussion about the 69.5 Maverick. I don't know anything about these early cars but I just bought a 1970 Sedan that has the same type of ignition switch as the car being shown. How can I verify if the car is a 69.5 and what is significant about these cars?

Thanks for the help, Jim M

by sedan do you mena 4 door?

the biggest signifigance with 69.5 cars is that they are the original maverick. kind of like the 64.5 mustang. when the actuall 70's came out a few months later there were a few slight difrences

the ignigtion switch, getting a 8'' rear instead of the 7.5, the vin moved from the inside of the door up to the dash under the windshield for the 70 model

I have a 1976 Maverick Stallion, and 85 More Mavericks and Comets in Inventory.
Look inside the drivers door,, at the data sticker and it will have a date,

    Mine reads: 9/69 and it is a 69.5 or 1970 officially:Handshake

The 69.5 and 70 have several differences to them.
The 69.5 shares most with the 70, but there are some 69.5 only parts.
The biggest one I can think of is the dash mounted ignition.

There are several others, but I always confuse 69.5/70 differences as to which was which.

    The gas tanks are different.
The door sill plates are different.
There is a slight difference in the front valance.
The semi-auto tranny was only available that year.
A leather dash emblem was available.
The horn on the low line wheel is a metal ring.
The Rimblow (Deluxe) steering wheel was only available that year.
    The tail lights are different.

I am sure I have forgotten some.

The rear shocks were not staggered - both were mounted in the front of the rear end.

The transmission tunnel was smaller than the later years.

    I believe they all were 2 doors ... 4 doors didn't show up until later ... I think '71.

Someone please correct me if this is not correct ...

Yeah, I said in the post that I get the exact differences mixed up, so I listed some of the possibilities.
