Excuse my bad spelling. I own a 71 comet gt and was thinking of swapping out the drums for discs. I have no idea where to start? I've read through most of threads and I see no such conversation brewing. Anyone have a clue?

    Thanks, Much

Get the complete disc brake spindles off a '75+ Maverick/Comet or Granada. Bolt them on. Replace anything that needs it (calipers, brake pads, rotors). Use rubber brake hoses for a '74 Maverick with disc brakes.

Have the front end alignment checked. Cruise.

The hardest part will probably be knocking the ball joints loose.

    Thanks for the info!!

Is there another alternative of upgrading if the parts were bought brand new?

we had a hard time for a while we didnt have the mustang proportioning valve so it was like there was air in the brakes and we had to shorten the ros to the master because the pedal was too high. i may have pictures tommorrow for you guys

You can also use the Granada/Monarch porportioning valve. You can use the Maverick non-power disc master cyl for better peddle effort, but I just used the power disk granada master. I have not had a problem. I did the swap on my Falcon/Ranchero first. Have the parts for the Mav, just haven't done it.

i used the wilwood disk brake kit part number 140-9054. im using the stock drum drum master cylinder and distrubtion block for now. i can tell that the brakes drag for just a second when i release them so some day im going to replace the distrubtion block with a line lock on the front and a adjustable proportioning block for the rear. i also will replace the master with the 79 dodge truck master that willwood uses as there recomended master cylinder.
this is a high performance option that onlys a little bit more than geting stock stuff and buying new calipers, rotors, pads, and bearings.

I was planning on using the granada stuff but the "mustard stain" stuff was avaliable so i took it.

So In upgrading for the 1971 Comet I plan on using high performance disc brakes. Any recommendations. Something that is good bang for your buck.
