Have a 4 door sedan 1972 1.7...im trying to cut holes to out speakers in the doors but it seems the doors are a one piece metal? Theres a leather covered park where the window rolls down and handle and stuff but actual door is metal...anyone know if these are jus hollow doors and I if ill cut into something
Once you take off the inside door panels, you can see that the doors are steel framed. You will have to cut into the inside metal to fit your speakers but you have to pick a spot that won't interfere with your windows rolling up or down or your door handles operation peg[/IMG]
Ok cool. And I was having trouble figuring how to get inside panel off. I dont see any screws or anything
I assume you already got the upholstered inside door panel off? That is only held on with clips on the back of it that lock into holes drilled in the door. The rest of the door as you see in my photo is a completely welded unit.
If you do put speakers in the doors install flexible foam baffles like these to protect them from moisture. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22348_The-Install-Bay-VXT69.html
I dunno, I've had 6X9 co-axials in my front doors for probably about 12 years now, they sound pretty good. Come to think of it, my Chrysler 300 came from the factory with the midranges in the front doors (tweeters on the dash and woofers in the rear deck).
From a sound point the doors are a great place to mount a speaker. From a practical perspective, one has to cut the metal to install them. Plus, as Barry mentioned, one needs some type of baffle to keep them dry. Much better places in a Maverick to install them.
Any ideas on speaker placement. I have a read deck woth two 6x9s but I need front stage sound. I currently have a two 6x9s in a small box I built up front in middle on floor area but the spot is so snall I had a builda a small box and the sound jus sounds so cramped.
how can I get the leather piece off without breaking the hardboard. the arm rest abd window knob prevents it. how can I get those off
