OK, I checked the archives and can't seem to find any info on how to remove what I call the door handle cup. I made a nice tool to get the panel clips out but I can't seem to figure out how to get the "cup" behing the door opening lever/handle. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
As I recall, there is a plastic insert which has to be removed first. There are 2 tits on each side that hold the insert into the cup. Just lightly pry on the side of the plastic and you will see them. Once the plastic is out, I believe there are screws that hold the metal cup on.
Mavaholic, I'm still a little confused? I'm talking about the whole piece behind the handle lever. I can't seem to find any plastic clips. Do you have any pics? Thanks again, EFIMAV
i had the same prob. fh73 told me about the ears on the little bucket behind the handle. try to pry the front side out first...frank... search under door panal
If you cant figure it out by tomorrow, I will dig some parts out of my shed and get some pictures up to help you.
For years I did not know how to get these off either. I was bending my door panel around the handle cup to get them off. I should have asked
Wait, on my door handle "cups" there is one screw in the middle of it which holds it to the metal frame of the door. Mine is a 73. Are we talking about the same piece? Do you have a pic? -Corbin
it is the same piece, there is no visible screw on the 74! I read through the posts again and I'll try separating the inner black piece from the chrome basket.
there is a screw in the bucket after you remove the black plastic part . corbin, me think your plastic part is missing. i don't see why they put it on to start with...frank...
Wow, that's wierd. My screw goes through the whole cup which is black inside surrounded by thin chrome trim on the outside. It seems to be one piece. I'll double check later for ya. Strange - I never thought it would be any other way.
Well, mine are two different pieces, but the screw goes right through both of them. It looks good, and you don't even notice to tell the truth. I thought they came like that. I guess I never noticed the difference on other Mavericks. I assume that a previous owner did this to mine. It sure makes removal a breeze though! -Corbin
