Is there a list of the spindles that will fit a Maverick to convert to Disc Brakes. I know about Granada and Monarch, but what about Mustang/Cougar, will they work? I know the Mustang 2 are different, but what about the earlier Mustang/Cougar stuff?
i know the ones i pulled off a 71 mav last weekend will fit. e-mail me if you can't be bothered to hunt around todmeg@aol.com as usual, put mav in the title bar
hotrodbob,i was looking through a parts interchange manual, and it said 70 mustang spindles will fit.69 is different.also merc.montego, will fit.
Just a note from a guy that spends most of his time in the Mustang world. It has been found that the Granada and Mustang spindles are different enough to cause problems on Mustangs with Granada spindles. I believe that Maverick and Granada spindles are identicle but not 100% sure about that. The length and angle of the steering arm where the tie-rod end goes into on the spindle is different enough that it changes the ackerman angle and can result in severe toe-in upon heavy accelation, especially when using soft springs. Alot of times to get a Grandada setup to work on a Mustang the tie rod ends and adjusting sleeves have to have about 1/4" removed in order to be able to set the toe-in. It's also common to have to actually set a Mustang with Granadas up with toe-out to prevent tire-scrub on acceleration. I would conclude that the opposite may be true when going the other way around. The conclusion most of the Mustang guys have come to is that they will interchange but it's best to use a setup that is original to the car if at all possible... Also note that the only reason we use them on the Mustangs is that the parts are much cheaper, for example Mustang rotors are over $100 at the parts store compared to $40 for Granadas. So I really don't see any reason to use Mustang brakes on a Mav since it will cost you alot more and may not have the optimum geometry. Jim 68restoman
The Maverick and early Granada/Monarch spindles are indentical. I know of no one who has had any problems with this swap. The nice thing is that Maverick spindles are still around and can be bought for around $100/pair.
i used a pair of 78 granada disc spindles on my 72 mach1,couple of years back and never had a problem.used the mustang balljoints and even the mustang tie rod ends.no interference problems at all.alingment shop got it right on the money, first try.
Yeah, I believe that there is a difference between the early Mustang disc brakes up until 1969 and the later ones even thoug they share the same calipers etc. Putting Granada spindles on 70 or later Mustang seems to work much better than on say a 66 or 68. Therefore I'd say if you were going to use Mustang spindles on a Maverick I'd definately use 70 or later ones since they are closer to the Mav/Granada style and have the same size tie rod ends etc...
Bob, I'll ask my father to confirm with the guy who sold them to him that they are indeed 73 mustang spindles.
Wow, around here the published price for spindels is $15 each. I guess I should start grabbing every set I can find.
Yes, Dennis.....grab every set you can. There is not a Granada/Monarch in a 50 mile radius of my house that has any spindles left....thanks to me!!
Hey, if you can get them for that price you'd be a fool to pass them up. I sell every set I get ahold of within days of posting ads for $125 a set...
I've sold two sets for $100 each. The sets of Granada spindles I've seen at swap meets are selling for the same price. If you can pick up sets for $15, get them. I've never heard of anyone being able to get them that cheap anywhere.
