I installed front disc brakes from a 71 grabber on my 73 with full manual drum brakes. Now it has no braking power and will not lock up. The only master cylinders I could find were full manual drum and power disc. I went with power disc. Is there a manual disc brake master available? I hate to go through the process of reflaring lines again if I dont have the correct master cylinder. Any ideas?
If all else is in good order, you could need a drum/disc proportioning valve. Either that, or go with an aftermarket adjustable. Btw: No Maverick/Comet came with disc brakes until 74. They weren't standard issue till 76. You got discs off the Grabber that originally came off something else! I would go down to the parts house and get a manual disc master for 76 Mav. That would get you right on the master. If that doesn't help, then shoot for a Granada prop valve or aftermarket adjustable. The aftermarket ones are inexpensive. The factory version will have to come from a donor car, I don't believe they are available new anywhere.
Earl, and I put a new master cyl. on his car and had little to no brakes...it was a ...bad...new master cyl.(not rebuilt) ......
I put front disc's on my 73 Grabber, and left everything else stock drum, and they worked fine, drum master cylinder, drum porp valve. I used rebuilt 74 maverick calipers, with new rotors and pads on 75 Maverick spindles.
