I went to the boneyard and got the 77 Granada stuff, but all I needed was the spindles and dust shields. New rotors, calipers, pads, hoses, bearings, seals. did not touch the proportioning valve, the tie rod end or the M/C. Everything seems to work, and the Comet stops well.
do the master cyl too. make certain you get one for a manual brake car. the stopping is much better than if you use the drum/drum master cyl. a lot less pedal pressure required. also the reservoir for the front brakes is bigger so you don't have to worry about running out of fluid as your pads wear.
The pedal pressure will be no different but the bigger reservoir is nice to have when the pads start to wear and the fluid is displaced. Try a '74 master cylinder; I think the brake line connections are the same...
ya know...i had this same "arguement" with todd. he found a website showing me the differences between the cylinders..there really IS a difference. the "innards" of the manual disc brake master is smaller. this makes for less pressure required to do the same function. then of course, after changing the master from manual drum/drum to disc/drum, i darn near put myself through the windshield because i was used to how much peddle i needed to stop. as usual, my .02
I did not say that there's no difference between the master cylinders. I said there's no difference in pedal pressure, and I know this because I have driven both set-ups. I still recommend the '74 M/C. I'm using a '75 but I had to use a shorter pedal push-rod and re-flare the lines from the junction block for the correct fittings...
