The reson i ask is that my dad has an junked granda that he replace the rearend in years ago from a comet and it is 5 lug and has the cover plate bolted on the back like a chevy. Thanks Jim
7.5 doesnt have a rear cover does it? i have a 7.5 in my mav....it doesnt have a rear cover.... thats interesting....
7.5 and 8.8 look very similar in appearance. The 7.5 is more rounded and smaller, though. 5 lug 7.5's were found in Rangers, Bronco II's, among other cars....but never in a Maverick/Comet that I'm aware of. Most 7.5's were 4 lug in both the Mav/Comet and Mustang...except the SVO (5 lug with disc brakes) and TurboCoupe. 7.5, 8.8 both have a rear cover with 10 bolts holding it on.
Here's a page I came across a while back that I think shows pretty well what the diffrent rears look like: http://www.coloradok5.com/axleguide.shtml Scroll about half way down the page. One rear they are missing is the Ford 8 inch that was standard in our Mavericks and Comets. It looks alot like a 9 inch as I'm sure most of you out there would know.
Thanks for the replys and the link. I will take a pic of it so i can compair it with the one under the granda. My dad said the rear come out of a mid 70s comit but who is to say the comit had not been chang b4 hand. THanks Jim
