    i hope i'm posting this question in the right place. i have a 1963 mercury comet with a 260 v8 with automatic. my question is can anyone tell me what to look for as to decodeing to see if this car has the original engine and trans this car was built with. i'm pretty sure it is an original v8 car but i want to find out if this thing still has all original drivetrain :hmmm: or possibley even someone i could contact to help me out on this would be appreciative enough. this is a very nice car and its been driveing me nuts wondering just how orinigal it really is :huh:

    have you tried searching online, I think it is the original engine, do you know if they share the same numbers as falcons?

    If you get the block number it tells you what year the engine is.

    Ex:

    C5=65
    D5=75

    you can get the number by removing the starter.
