I'm curious about the dash vents in the mavericks and comets and which cars got them and which didn't. I used to think the cars with air conditioning got the center dash vents. But recently it has come to my attention that some cars without air conditioning also have center dash vents. Then I also could have sworn that I saw one car have the radio in that location. Is that true? So can anyone clear up this whole mystery for me?

what made you think the car you saw with the center vent wasn't an A/C car?

A friend just bought a 72 with a 302. It has the vent but it does not have a/c.

Car was originally an AC car or the dash has been changed. Only AC cars had center dash vent.

That's what I always thought but was thinking maybe there were exceptions.

I am with Dennis (Mavaholic).....no exceptions. Could possibly been a "mistake" at the factory I suppose. It would be interesting if it was.

I'm having him check for under dash air vent on drivers side. He's got standard heater controls and blower motor through firewall.

It would have never left the factory with a center vent, if it didn't have A/C. Any thing could have been changed on the car in it's lifetime.

It's starting to look like the ac box was changed out for a heater box. The car does not have a fresh air vent or the hole for one under the cowl on the drivers side.

Have him look at the radiator support and see if the hole was punched out for the AC lines to go thru to the condensor.

I bought an AC box to replace my stock non-air box so I don't have to have the blower motor sticking through the firewall anymore. This AC box has the ducting that leads up to that center vent in an AC dashboard. My non-air box has no such ducting since my dash never had that vent. If you say your friend has the heater motor through the firewall, my guess would be that the dash was changed over to one that originally had AC

Also, wouldn't there be 4 holes in the firewall plus the blower hole, where a non-a/c car only had 2 for the heater hoses..:hmmm: I'm not going out in the rain to look.

The hole I describe is on the driver's side of the radiator support, just to the side of the radiator. Oval shaped hole.
