i have a 1970 maverick. I have just rebuilt my 302 and am ready to swap it into my maverick. I have however run into a number of snags. First i could not get my crossmember for my c-4 to slide indo the postion it should. Do i have to drill new mounting holes. My friend is trying to get me to weld it in place? does that sound stuiped or is it just me. Also where does the crossmember for the v8 mount. Does anybody have any pictures of what they did wth there engine/transmission crossmember. If you do please post them or email them to me. jcassonjr@aol.com

Actually it's the opposite, if they are on the wrong side it will sit too far forward. They are offset to the rear of the car. Definitely do not weld the tranny xmember in! It will bolt right up if everything is in right.

Even with the crossmember not bolted into the tranny i cannot get the xmember to reach the bolts. i will post a pic. I heard it was something about the 70's models.

The crossmember will not reach the bolt holes where it is supposed to line up. i also think that it may be a little too long. I got it with my v8 conversion set ford exchange. maybe it needs bent out.

Either the frame mounts or the trans crossmember is not the correct one. Got pictures of both?

The 1970 trans tunnel is not as big as on the later cars. That could be some of the hinderance.

I think Craig hit the nail on the head. Someone butchered my '70 tunnel and they still had use the 6 cyl hump.

I'd weld in mounting brackets if I had to but not the X-member to the chassis itself maybe?

70maverick173; Craig is right, the tunnel is smaller. I had to elongate the holes, and take a bit of material from the inside of the crossmember to make it fit. Don't give up. Remove and drill a bit at a time till it works. Once you do, it all falls into place. Let us know,

Ditto Earl...elongate the holes a little at a time
