I am trying to determine the size of my rear end. I know my gear ratio is 2.79, but I don't know the ring gear size. The tag is missing from the housing, so I don't have any numbers to go by. It's a 1973 comet GT, factory v8. I've ruled out a 9", but that still leaves me with 8.8", 8.0", or 7.5". Does anyone know a place to reference this information, or possibly know themselves?

Should be an 8". Stuff gets changed over the years, but the car probably still has the 8" it was built with.

It is an 8 inch unless it was changed as Dan stated. And it will be an open
rearend-not positive traction, unless again it has been changed.

Got any pics? I have a GT myself.

Both the 8.8 and 7.5 have rear covers on them. Nobody in their right mind would put a 7.5 in there. They are about as weak as the OJ jury.
