I just got a 1976 Comet 2dr with GT badging (?). Basically runs and drives - but will need some serious repairs to be confident on road. The engine/tranny runs great and brakes are reasonable but PO removed whole dash to get at rot underneath and cowl but evidently gave up . Floors, rear spring-bushing frame hanger, front tq bxs will need help...

It's a 200 / automatic put to Hurst floor shifter on what's left of floor. I'm working on a 250 to put in it...

    have fun

I can see from the pictures it needs quarters too. Sounds like you need to find another car. :(

Was the cowl repair ever finished? Without fixing that problem first water will continue to enter your interior

    Thanks for the replies

I'm figuring what I will deal with first to make the car roadable' and then the mods I plan. Here's a pic of the cowl issues from below ) through hole in floor). Some frame flaking around idler arm and rear spring mounts need immediate help. The cowl rotted area may be welded/patched and sealed off with heater/vents eliminated for this junkyard rescue level project ...

    >> Anyone used Mustang rear frame rail (rear spring hanger) repair pieces for a '76 ?

Well I'd consider that as a parts car, almost as bad as Comet GT I'm parting out...

It looks like a TON of work ahead. It's worse than I thought. The rot in the frame areas would have me concerned. I believe from searching other posts on the Mustang frame rails before, I don't think they are the same, or even close. Someone had asked me personally about the same topic. Good Luck!

You came to this message board for advice....right? Take our advice from SEASONED Maverick/Comet owners. That is a parts car. Fixing that car correctly will bury you. There are sooo many rust free cars out there....why mess with one that needs so much work.

    Lots of good advice/info here:
