If anyone has a louver for their comet or maverick that they don't want or know where one is I would like to buy. I think they look sweet on Jamie Miles' Dad's old car in this pic.

When louvers were actually made for these cars, the bottom slat was omitted because the trunk would hit it when opened. That guy seems to make a quality product and was told about the trunk thing. I'd contact him and see what he has to say.

Yes....and I have made him aware of the problem. He is going to have it fixed by the time the auction ends he says. I think what he has come up with looks pretty good.

My dad found the ones on his Comet on the side of the road and reworked them to fit the Comet. No telling what they were originally on. He says he thinks they are from an 80's Camaro.

I think I would rather modify my trunk hinges so that the trunk dosen't open as far, rather then be missing a slat. Just dosen't look right to me.

maybe some one could make a cantalever hinge that swings out and up farther to open up over the louvers and put that bottom slat back on the set...

That is what the builder of the louvers talked about doing. I looked into it and the trunk lid only opens about 10" before it would hit the louvers. Not even enough to "look" into the trunk...let alone get anything out. I told him he needs to work on the design so the trunk lid can be fully opened.

Here is his response to the question.....

    Hello Dave:
I don't think the trunk will open all the way, I just took louver over to this car to see how the fit was, I do know that the louver from JC. Whittney was a short louver and they did not put the bottom tier on there's for that reason. I'm not sure how you guys would want this...? an odd looking louver or an extra procedure (lifting louver to get into trunk...but having a complete proper looking louver).
The man that owns this car is not available at all times and it's just a hit and miss occasion to catch him where this car is sitting so I can check this distance, but from a good pic. that I have it seems that for the trunk to open, I'll have to trim corners back about 3.5 inches and end up with the short louver... on the sides. I do have the center up high enough though. I could do same as old JC. Whittney louver if thats what you would like
    Thanks for your interest.
    John

I like the aluminum ones better than the old style. They would look good with side window louvers like Jim Allen has on his Maverick.

Hmmmmmmmmmm I did metal work for 15 yrs .:slap:

He has another auction up this time with 3 pictures. It looks pretty good from the back. He said there are some clips to lift it up while going in the trunk. I think that sounds like a trunk full of scratches and a pain in the ass. He says that he can make them like the JC one's but they would look goofy. So do I go for convenience or looks? And is the price right? Questions questions questions, but I'm sure you guys have answers :D
