This is for my grabber blue GT, I was hoping for photos of different color body stripes. Carbon fiber scoop and trunk lid with endcaps and satin black tail panel.
There are early and later GT stripes. I have liked the later ones more because they try to follow the body lines a bit. With the early ones, Mercury was on this kick of laying down a straight line, and they did this on several models, just look at the Cougar Eliminators ... same story. Personally, I have thought of doing something that is closer to Grabber stripes without the wheel arches. I really like some of the two color schemes too. I was playing with the idea of changing the car to orange when I did the quick Photoshop job below. Now sticking with green, similar to the original color, I would opt for a blue/yellow stripe scheme. This stripe layout is similar to other Mercury stripes of the era .... solid top stripe/outlined bottom
I'm also partial to the 73 stripes but prefer the tail section doesn't drop down so low. Initially I will just use some early OEM look red GT stripes that came with my car but the longer term plan is to do something like this. And please don't give me any more flack over the red grill.. it was just a quick photochop towards my overall theme to "kill the black". lol PS. Here's a video of a nice looking GT with '73 stripes that have been straightened out a bit towards my particular taste. Not sure about or why the weird "notchy look" as the stripes climb from the doors up over the rear wheel arches.. but otherwise it looks damned good to me.
I have also been tempted to do just the front part of the factory stripe, tapering to the door handle, following the front fender arch, and calling it done. Trying to tie both front and rear fender arches together is a struggle. I would tuck it closer to the upper edge of the fender, and have the widest part over the spindle. Overall it would be thinner than the factory stripe. It would visually have the effect of pointing the car into forward motion from many different viewing angles.
