once i get my 289 up and running i would like to put a cold air intake on it like this one except mine will be on a carb and not a throtle body. would it work? the carb is a 2bbl 300cfm View attachment 33491
Sure it will work. Doesn't have to be any special type of carb or anything to run a tube to a cool area and put a cone filter on it.
Anytime you can get cold air into the motor its a plus. Hot air contains less oxygen. I love these guys I see come into work with the late models. Throw out the factory air box thats plumbed to fresh air and replace it with so called cold air intake that now sits above the exhaust manifold. DUH!! They think its faster because its louder. Or they put it under the bumper and turn it into a giant water pump the first time they hit a wash out. Oops bent a rod. Yahoo money for the shop.
Cold air intake should grab air from outside the engine compartment - it isn't very cold under the hood! Cold and warm (hot) air contain the same ratios of oxygen - the air is just less dense so it pulls less fuel into the engine that cooler air would. The best place to get cold air is in front of the radiator but off to either side.
isn't a 300cfm carb a bit small for a 289, 200 sixes are good for 350 cfm, i think you'd be better off in the 5-600 cfm range...but thats my opinion. and yes cold air intakes do help, try running two ducts to either side of the radiator
