Check your brake fluid. When the fluid gets low it triggers the lite. Or you have a bypass in your master cylinder. Causes the light to trigger also. Try bleeding your brakes at all 4 wheels. Be sure to keep a check on your fluid level. When you are done bleeding the system, see if the lite is still on. If it is, you probably need to replace the master cylinder. Bleed the master & check the lite. Hopefully it will be off now.... Good luck...

    From the Chilton Book:

Since the introduction of dual master cylinders to the hydraulic brake system, a pressure differential warning signal has been added. This signal consists of a warning light on the dashboard activated by a differential pressure switch located below the master cylinder. The signal indicates a hydraulic pressure differential between the front and rear brakes of 80-150 psi, and should warn the driver that a hydraulic failure has occurred.

After repairing and bleeding any part of the hydraulic system the warning light may remain on due to the pressure differential valve remaining in the off-center position. To centralize the valve a pressure difference must be created in the opposite branch of the hydraulic system that was repaired or bled last.

NOTE: Front wheel balancing of cars equipped with disc brakes may also cause a pressure differential in the front branch of the system To centralize the valve:

1.Turn the ignition to either the "acc" or "on" position.

2.Check the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoirs. Fill to within V4 in. of the top if necessary.

3.Depress the brake pedal firmly. The valve will centralize itself causing the brake warning light to go out.

    4.Turn the ignition off.

5.Prior to driving the vehicle, check the operation- of the brakes and obtain a firm pedal.

    brake light

I once had the same problem. I could not find a leak in the system. The fluid level would go down slowly though. I eventually found a pin hole in the rear brake line. It was hidden by one of the hook/tabs that hold the line to the rear housing. Once I replaced the line the light stayed off.

i fixed mine years ago by pulling the wire plug off of the proportioning valve, never tempted to put it back. the only time the light has turned on for me the pedal was already on the floor and not slowing me.... ;P

Keep this in mind too...the switch connected to the parking brake can also cause this light to stay on. I know the foot activated brake has a switch...not sure about the hand brake...
