What would you say is a fair price for this '74 Comet? Seller says that it Runs and drives great. Has new Tranny, V8 302. I feel like this is a $2000 car. First, its a big bumper '74 and second the rust on the outside tells me there is bunch more rust to repair underneath. I have not looked at the car in person

    That car looks familiar... :hmmm:

Doors, quarters, probably trunk drops, maybe torque boxes. Hard to say, and a gamble at $2k if you ask me.

I agree on that maybe a $2K car, frm what can be seen on the pix. The rust wud be of far more concern to me than the big bumper. Secondly, most people say; their car runs and drives great. Like u said, no telling how much more will be found. If I were not a body/fender person, personally, I wud probably pass on that one.

Check the cowl for leaks, the floors, and trunk floor. Also look at the quarter panels and wheel wells from inside the trunk to see what repairs have been done and if you're happy with them.

How much value would you place on the supposed new transmission? Does that lend anything to the value? Would you say $1500 is reasonable offer? The seller is asking $3500.... I want to offer really not more than $1500 but I think they are more proud of it than that.

Have a good look, a real good look underneath for any rust, don't get overly excited, and buy something you might regret.
Floors, Torque boxes, Rear frame rails, Rockers, Cowl, Inner fenders, Fenders, and Quarters are all common rust spots on a 38+ year old car.

Supposed is the key word. Does the owner/seller have any receipts or proof that the trans is rebuilt, if so by who? If not, I wud assume othewise. If ur not prepaired to do a lot of rust repair... I wud look elsewhere... "Haste makes Waste".

I missed out on a 71 comet (200/C4) with very clean nice sheetmetal and a nicer interrior for 1100.00 about a month ago. Missed it by 10 minutes!!!
    V-8 car...That condition, 2K tops (IMHO)

If they are asking $3500...I doubt they will take $1500. But...you never know.

I remember seeing those pics before. They looked doctored to my eye. They still look doctored. I think that car has some serious cancer.

That said I paid 2800 for mine. The pics showed less rust than those pics do. When I looked at the car in person it looked like a lot of surface rust and a couple easy patches. Then I got the car out of the garage, driven home and found where all the rust was hiding. In retrospect I overpaid by about a thousand dollars. I figure it makes up for the steal I got on my first comet and my scales are balanced.

I would offer 1500 and be willing to go as high as 2000 if he has receipts for the transmission.

You can subtract $1000 for the Keystone Klassics <gag>.

I'd probably give $700 for the car. It has a bit of rust.

The way I see it....your gonna spend atleast $350ish in just parts, converting bumpers, valances, stone guard and such. plus your time doing it. then bucket seats $3-400 and you'll have to do up the rest of the interior to match, the amount of exposed rust says there is a lotttt hidden $$$$$$$$$$. and etc....find the car you really want and start from there..It'd be....easier that way...lol
