what would be all the components ide need to hook up a carburetor scoop? And do most of them even work?
It depends on how much you want to spend and how elaborate or simple you want it to be.Just remember that it will have to contend with rain/car washing,so it will need some sort of drainage that doesnt get the carburetor/distributor wet,and you want it to pull in high pressure air to actually do its intended job which is to force cool air into your carb.
ya ive just been thinking about it. I dont really think i should do it considering the weather around here and when it will be driven. It was just a thought though.
Cowl induction seems to be the best bet for keeping the water out of the engine, since the high pressure air enters off the cowl/windshield.This tends to limit the amount of water ingestion due to direction of travel.A fresh air intake of some sort is beneficial to mavericks/Comets IMO since our cars have tight engine compartments that trap alot of hot air.
Ya ive also looked at maverick mans carbine fiber cowl scoops. their nice, but a little to pricey for me.
They arent cheap, but when you consider what it takes to make a fiberglass hood look good,or an add on scoop,it ends up being a wash cost wise if not cheaper.
John? do you have a plenum attached to the underside of the hood, which the aircleaner gasket seals too??? I want to use the same aircleaner in the future on my Mav with an underhood plenum and would appreciate any details/pics you could provide.By the way, your engine/compartment looks awsome!!! thanks,Pete.
Very crafty John,I know getting any kind of plenum set up under the hood is going to be a lesson in futility(or insanity)LOL.So what did the dia of the hood hole end up at???
Sorry John...I know how you feel.I do however appreciate your help very much and you will now forever be on my list of big kahunas whome I look up too.Thacks' Car is pretty sweet isnt it?? Thats pretty much the plenum style I had in mind for my car,I thank you for the pic as well John. Thank you Pete:Handshake
