started wednesday night right after i filled up with gas from a different place then i aways do. and it would spit and try to stay running and then die but i could start her right back up and the rpm on my tach is wild but the engine isn't reving as high or that low from the sound of it but is off and on firing though. babied her to off the highway and then stopped to check everything out and looked fine started her up and ran fine all the way home some 20miles. so i thought maybe it was the gas. went out in the morning toped off with the gas i always get and ran fine to work yesterday then trying to get home she wouldn't hold running at all reving up and down and dieing randomly. got into a parking lot and looked and had no fuel pressure got her started long enough that i could get a look at the fuel pressure gauge and nothing at all. got a tow back home and tried to start her to show my dad and then she idled fine and had fuel pressure but i decided it was the original fuel pump ill get a new one anyway so this morning went out there and started and let her warm up and was fine shut her off let her sit for a hour and started back up and again random reving up and down and then choking out and dieing. now everything is new except the starter solenoid so i went and picked up a new one of them and wired it in and its the same way. everything is new and have been driving her daily for the past 1000 miles and all at once its doing this now. idk what else to do or anything im lost can someone help me please...

there is a filter sock on the pick up in the fuel tank. it may be cloged up. thats where i would look first. you can pull it out with out dropping the tank. you will want the tank blow 1/4 full or alot of your fuel will spill out on you.

As Bryant said...Clogged or rusty fuel pickup screen in tank. Jack up left side of car to tillt the fuel away from the sending unit on the tank to minimize spillage.Of course if the tank is full you will still have LOTS of spillage (may want to siphon off a half tank or more) before doing this. Your idle hunting (raising and dropping off) could be fuel pressure related or a vacuum leak. Once you have it running be certain you have no vacuum leaks. Bad fuel (water in gas) will cause this problem of yourse as well.

Ok well i just went out to the garage and started up not near as bad of an idle like it was before but enough that it will stay idling and i checked to make sure im getting spark and everytime it drops in rpms i have no light on my timing light to the number one cylinder . Could my coil of gone bad or somthing electrical

And i have a whole new fuel system ( well 1000 miles on it) and i have a full tank right now. But if the filter in the tank was getting cloged i would have a drop in fuel pressure right Because it stays at 5-6 psi

Ok just to add to it i put my timing light on the plug wire going to the coil from the distributor and theres a constant light then a blink everytime the engine dropes in idle so it has to be somthing electrical right Im going to try to track down a coil from advance around here its a flame thrower II so idk if they carry it but its a start right
