When I turn on my car it makes a sound like something is lightly hitting metal. Like a screwdriver tapping a pipe. It only does it once or twice after I stop turning the key. The car turns over and once its started it doesn't make this sound anymore. It only does it when I go to start it. Can anyone tell me what this sound is and how to fix it please?

You could have a starter gear not retracting all the way and it's tagging the flex plate teeth.

    Replace the starter.
