I bought an 8" rear for a project Im working on and it was stripped of all the brake hardware. I have gotten all the demensions for the shoes and drums, but have no clue how to put it all together. Can someone please e-mail a pic or two of the set up?
Good reference, Russ. One thing I might add - most of us old geesers have done this at least once in our lives - and that's mistakenly put the shoes in "backwards". The larger shoe (if there is a difference - slight at least) attaches to the rearward side of the axle. That's for both sides. The brakes are mirrored about the longtidunal axis (front to back) of the car - not about the center of the axle. The shoes will fit in the incorrect positions - they just won't work as well or last as long. Just a heads-up from someone who's been there. Thanks for the illustration, Russ.
I've done that on one of those all weekend drinking party. Oh wait, your talking brake shoes. Never mind.
I thought it was. I removed it from my car and placed it on the driver's side so they wouldn't get mixed up.....but I guess I should have done that before I rolled the axle away....then removed the backing plates. Thank goodness you caught that. I would have probably caught it when the parking brake cables wouldn't hook up right.
