Ok............here goes............I have a 302 bored 20 over with 9.5:1 hyper-utectic pistons, slightly ported heads(stock valve sizes), a Weiand 180 intake, a Holley 600, a Mallory distributer, and an MSD box with a blaster2 coil. I have decided to go with the stock tranny with a shift kit with this particular engine. (I plan on building a fire breather with a better tranny in the future.........but we all know how that goes)
It is going to be driven primarily on the street with the only real track time mainly for dialing it in and just seeing what it can do. Mostly boulevard cruising and only some freeway driving. I can always adapt the rear end gears after I know what the car needs. But probably nothing too steep anyway.
What I need is suggestions for cam selection. I don't really know all that much about cam applications and how they affect total outcome of performance.
Just let me know some of your thoughts and experiences, please and thanks.

    Also...........

What I'm looking for is probably the largest cam I can go with without needing guideplates and screw in studs. I'll get those in my next engine.

    Or...............I can use Jegs part#270-36655-16 '77-'00 255-302-351W
Will accept 3/8'' stud stamped steel or Crane aluminum rocker arms and 5/16'' diameter pushrods.
So, being that my heads are of the newer variety and fit into this range........my next question would be:
What size stamped steel rocker arms are on a '69 set of heads? Are they 3/8"?

Would these be considered bottleneck type studs or pedestal mounted rockers? Or is "rail type" something different alltogether?
My guess is the pedestal mounted but I'm not sure.

Cam Reseach. Great guy to work with...and he KNOWS Ford engines well. Neatest thing is that if you opt for a flat-tappet cam, he'll break it in for you...which will save a lot of headaches and frustration.

Wow. I've never heard of a manufacturer breaking in a cam for you. So they just number the lifters and ship 'em out and you're ready to drive away as soon as you're done the swap?
    Cool.

Would have saved me a mess last cam swap. (being a dumbass as I sometimes am, I forgot to hookup the transmission cooler lines and dumped two quarts of type F in my driveway before I noticed.)
