My 1975 C4 is starting to Have some issues, I have a bud that has a 1985 C5 from a Mercury Cougar, I know the splines for the converter are the same and from what i have read i need to swap the bell housings. has anyone done the same swap? im looking for any other problems i might run into, or if this is even a good idea.
AFAIK you DON'T want to swap bells(may not even be possible if one is case fill and other pan)... The C5 converter has a wider bolt pattern so requires a 164 tooth 28 oz flexplate, that won't even fit into a 157 tooth bell... If it is possible to use the C4 converter and bell I wouldn't, you'd loose the lockup feature of the C5...
