Having the work done today. I am installing the TCI kit but my question is on the servo. I read a lot on this board about going to a "C" or an "H" servo. My question is, is that worth the $100 the servo costs? I have always ran an "A" in my tranny and it shifted hard and fast for me. This car is turning into a once street-strip to more of a street and SOMETIMES strip. Is the servo worth the $100 or should I just stick with the "A" since it has worked well for me? (the "A" had me in the 12's and I don't need to go any faster!) Thanks all for the help.. Scotty P

Keep the "A" it is only .014 smaller diameter on the apply piston, than the "H". Is the same size on the release piston.

Thanks Dave, I was hoping you would chime in.. Why all the fuss about the billet "H" the shop is "strongly" reccommending? (besides their mark-up!)

they just want to make some more money and about 75% of people that get their tranny fixed dont question what the tranny shops say it takes to rebuild

why do you think it costs 1500+ to rebuild a tranny.....honestly...no way does it cost that much for the parts..

i had a friend that needed his tranny on an explorer rebuilt...after all was over...2600 bucks...

I think they are trying to sell you a billit one which is for racing and full manual valve bodies that are exerting high fluid pressures. The Ford servo's, are prone to blowing out with some mod's that are made in full race tranny's. The billit one's are a lot thicker and aluminum. I run the PA one's in our race cars. Don't think you need one for your application unless you decide different. JMO

Thanks Dave, that's what I thought. In all reality, the shop was pretty easy going on it. They offered but did not push too hard. Complete rebuild with the TCI kit that I supplied less than $200.00. I think that is a good deal. I know I could likely do that myself, but staying at work I can earn much more than thAt in the amount of time it would take me..

that's a pretty fair price. my guy in tucson charges me about $250 and he supplies everything. i just drop the tranny off. and in an emergency, i just bring the car in and use his lift. :)

I know that the prices vary alot from location to location.....on an explorer we get around $1300 instaled (a4ld) and believe it or not the parts bill on them run between $600-$800 they are trully junk....now you have to figure in wages paid, equipment cost, ect....... and then the warranty to boot.....a warranty to a shop is just like insurance most of the time it will never be back...but on the chance that it comes back compleetly wasted you have to make enuff to make it proffitable just my :2cents:

hey don....i need to talk to you about my tranny...you say you have a guy in tucson who does the tranny for ya.... i had my tranny rebuilt in december 2004.. since then the tranny started to slip and i took it back and they said that the adjusting nut backed off.... well it just started doing it again...and its only been about 500 miles since they adjusted the adjusting nut...

can you pass me the info on that guy...if he is that affordable...he might be able to fix this right for me for a good price....thanks
