She has a stock 302 with a 2bbl carb - pretty much plain jane Maverick but she likes to "get on it" once in a while. So when I adjusted her bands the last time I told her it was time to start thinking about a new tranny. She wants a strong tranny with manners and I want one that won't have to be rebuilt in my lifetime. I built it with 6 clutches in each pack, modified the cooling for more, added pressure lubrication to the #9 thrust washer, drilled the drums for good exit of oil, added cooling to the intermediate band and modified the valve body with my special stage one select shift mods. She will be able to put it in any gear whenever she wants and put it in "Drive" and enjoy the crisp but gentle shifts. If she has it in drive and stomps on it she is going to burn some rubber on the 1-2 shift and give the tires a good "chirp" on the 2-3 shift. I think she will enjoy the way it will work and with the added clutches and pressure I won't have to do anything but adjust bands and change oil every two to three years. I am sure it will outlast me and maybe my kids (or grandkids) when they inherit it.

Sounds good. How long does it take you to do that now?

I'm really enjoying rebuilding the C4 for my car. Its taken me about a month, but most of that was spent waiting on parts or not working on it. lol

I've finally got it reassembled, and end play down as much as possible. Today I'm going to throw it in the bed of my truck and go to my work and do the air tests.

    Hopefully it will work...lol

If it is good, it will go in the car today/tomorrow

It takes me a while because I have to use equipment to do all my lifting. I have all my parts in stock, and I do all my own machine work. I can stand at the work bench for about an hour at a time. I charge just over eight hours to do the whole rebuild. It probably takes me twice that amount of time to do all the work but I go with the flat rate charges. I don't do the removal or installation - can't do that kind of thing with my back broken in three places. I can build one transmission in a couple of weeks if I have good days. If my back acts up it can take a month to get one finished. Working an hour or two each day.
I have a contact at one of the local tech schools and the tranny class will do the exchange for me. My customers have to do the removal and installations - I only do the bench and machine work.

    Ray,
Just let me know when you are going to be in Seattle (or close by) about 2 weeks ahead of time and I will have it ready for you when you get here.
Or find a way to ship a transmission two ways cheap enough that it is affordable.
Oh, and tell me how much HP you are going to have in front of it.
I feel like we know each other well enough to build one for you. I could give you a five year warranty but it wouldn't mean much unless you could get it back to me. That is why I hesitate to build C4s for shipment - I have no way to satisfy an unhappy owner.

I may be taking you up on that offer. It'll be a little while before I'll be ready for it so I'll keep you posted.
    Thanks
