I am thinking of putting back in a toploader into my Maverick. I took one out of the car many, many years ago and went with a C-4. Now I am having the urge to do some gear banging and I was wondering if someone new of a parts list I would need to re-due the toploader install. Unfortunately, I got rid of most of the parts from the toploader. However, I did keep the clutch pedal assembly in the car. I just stuffed the pedal under the carpet and left it alone in case this ever came up! The car has a 302 and currently a C-4 auto. I'm pretty sure the trans mount, drive-shaft and yoke will all work.

The linkage will be the hardest part to find. 302 cross shafts are almost non existant. If you have welding skills, you can use Mustang parts which are easy to come by both new and used. You can also go with a hydraulic set up. There are kits (Mustang) that will work or you can assemble your own set up from mutt parts, alot cheaper. Again, depending on you ability to fabricate brackets and stuff. Other than linkage, a bell housing and a clutch. Dont forget to put a pilot bushing in the end of the crank. The small spline toploader is the same length as a C4 so it will bolt right in and your drive shaft will be correct. Banging gears is the only way to fly in my opinion.

    match the bell

If it's the original engine you need the 157 tooth bell. I believe 6394 in the casting number is the correct one. example: d2oa-6394-aa. That's the number on one I just pulled from behind a 250(same as small block) that had a toploader on it.
