Thanks to all the great information from this forum, I have a AOD in my Maverick in place of the C-4. Frank's rear trans. crossmember looks like it came from the factory. A perfect fit. Napa was able to convert the OEM flexplate number given here on the forum to one they had in the warehouse. Slight modification to the exhaust (right side). Shortened the driveshaft one inch. It was necessary to remove the right header during the installation. Thanks to all that replied to my questions. Caught a couple of dry days and was able to drive the car.

The OEM flexplate number I used was EOAZ 6375 A. It was 50 oz. with 157 teeth.

I would like to run an AOD but they don't allow you to have manual control of 2nd gear. Seems like a goofy set up but I guess it worked. Are there any tricks to work around this aside from getting the E4OD out of a 2wd pick-up?

I noticed the same thing you are talking about. I was hoping that it will stay ln under full throttle until I am ready to shift. Mine has a B&M shift kit. When I drove It was with a light throttle.

i was told you could shift to OD and then slam back to drive again under throttle to hit second manually? sounds tricky but i have dragger friends who dont think its a big deal...

thats a good way to brake the trans. ive know lots of people who have manualy shifted a stock aod and had it fail shortly there after. there are susposed to be some mods that can be done to the trans so it can be shifted manualy and not die.

The "epoxy mod" will give manual control over 1 and 2 gears butyou need a OD lockout to keep it from going into OD. The "epoxy mod" shift pattern is 1, 2, 3-4(automatic). There is little trouble with this because OD doesn't come in under power. there is a problem if you shift back to 2 from OD though.
With the standard shift pattern (1-2, 3, 4) you can drop shift back to 1 when it shifts to 2nd and that will hold it in second until you shift back to 3.
You do need to be sure that you are getting good throttle pressure at all times when using either shift system or you will burn up the AOD.

:dizzy: i think that is why most my "racer" friends stick with a c-4 or chebby 2 speed for quarter racing... just a couple that mess with AOD and its on their "street cruiser"... im still considering the AOD for the future though...
